The historical city of
Paraty is the perfect place to spend
New Year’s Eve with lots of joy and beauty. Located on the southern coast of Rio de Janeiro State, this colonial city is considered one of the most charming cities in Brazil. Not like other coastal cities, New Year’s celebration in Paraty is much quieter than destinations as Porto Seguro, in Bahia, or Copacabana, in Rio de Janeiro, but not without pleasure.
Paraty New Year’s Eve is the third bigger event in town, behind only
Paraty International Literary Party (FLIP, in Portuguese) and
Carnival. At
Pontal Beach, which is the main beach, the new year is welcomed with fireworks. You can also go to
Jabaquara Beach and see the fireworks from there as well.
Beyond the traditional meetup on the beach, people usually go to
Terra Nova Chapel, downtown, to watch the fireworks.
Restaurants and hostels in Paraty also organize private New Year’s Eve parties, or, if you prefer, you can spend New Year´s on a boat. Paraty Bay offers more than 60 islands and 90 beaches to visit.
Due to the high number of tourists, it is recommended to
buy in advance your ticket bus to Paraty. Even with additional bus services, tickets may be sold out close to New Year’s Eve dates.
