Rio de Janeiro Bus Station - Novo Rio, known as Rodoviária Novo Rio, is the main bus terminal in Rio de Janeiro. It was inaugurated in 1965 and it is located at Santo Cristo quarter, close to the center of the city and the main streets of Rio de Janeiro. At Novo Rio Bus Station, there are over 40 different bus companies with about 165 interstate and 6 international bus lines. About 50,000 passengers use this bus station every day. During public holidays, the number can grow to approximately 80,000 passengers.
Novo Rio Bus Station is partially adapted to attend people with disability. There are several assistant services for people with disability or reduced mobility. You will find the following facilities and services at the bus station of Rio de Janeiro:
The passengers, who lose an item at the bus station, can get it back at the lost-property office (Operations Department). The business hours of the lost-property office are from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The items, which are found, will be saved during 30 days. If the items are not picked up after 30 days, they are donated to philanthropic institutions. To get the lost items back, you have to bring documents to proof that the items are yours.

At Novo Rio Bus Station you can find a bank agency of the Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF), which is located at the arrival area on the upper floor. Additionally you can find 25 ATMs from Banco do Brasil, Banco Santander, Caixa Econômica, 24 Horas and Itaú. The ATMs are working 24 hours per day, and some of them operate with the most common international bank cards.
The parking lot is located next to the bus station and has a direct access to the arrival area on the upper floor. There are 311 parking slots (8 parking slots for people with disability and 15 for elderly people). The parking area is available 24 hours a day.

There are 2 baggage rooms at Novo Rio Bus Station. One of them is located at the arrival area and the other one at the departure area on the basement floor. The baggage room is operating during 24 hours per day.

If you are looking for more comfort, you should use the Executive Buses (Ônibus Executivos), which are known under the name Frescões. The departure area of the executive bus lines is located close to Novo Rio Bus Station (close to the exit of the departure area).
There is a special bus line (bus line 133), which is integrated with the subway. It takes you from Novo Rio Bus Station to Estácio Bus Station, where you can take the subway to get to the southern area (Zona Sul) and the northern area (Zona Norte). Please don`t forget to ask for the integrated bus ticket. With this ticket you can catch the bus and the subway.
