World Cup by Bus - Curitiba

Curitiba is the capital of the Brazilian state of Paraná located in the south eastern part of Brazil. The city's population is more than 1.5 million people, making it the eighth most populous city in Brazil. The matches of the World Cup are hold in the "Arena da Baixada".

16 June 2014 – 16:00 Iran x Nigeria

The first match to be hold in the ‘Arena da Baixada’ will be the match between Iran and Nigeria. The Nigerian national team called ‘Super Eagles’ is currently just ranked 47th the official FIFA world ranking. Coach Stephen Keshi is used to play a 4-5-1-formation and can count on some highly technical skilled players such as John Obi Mikel (FC Chelsea), Emmanuel Emenike (Fenerbahce), Victor Moses (FC Liverpool) and Ogenyi Onazi (Lazio).

20 June 2014 – 19:00 Honduras x Ecuador

On 20 June 2014 will take place the match between the two underdogs in Group E:Honduras vs. Ecuador. The match is extremely important for the teams to maintain the chances to classify for the eighths final having in mind the two strong competitors in Group E: France and Switzerland.

23 June 2014 – 13:00 Australia x Spain

Australia against Spain will be the match between the number 63 against the number 1 according to the official FIFA ranking. Spain star midfielder Iniesta has a market value, which is second times higher than the market value of the whole Australian national team. While Iniesta’s market value can estimated to be around 55 million €, the market value of the whole Australian national team is just about 25 million €.

26 June 2014 – 17:00 Algeria x Russia

On 26 June 2014 will be hold the last of the four matches in the ‘Arena da Baixada’ in Curitiba. Russia will be the favorite in this match against Algeria. The star player of the Russian national team is Alan Dzagoev, 23 years old midfielder from ZSKA Moscow. The most experienced player is defense Sergey Ignashevich having disputed 94 matches for the Russian national team.

How to get there

Going to Arena da Baixada

The Arena da Baixada Stadium, is located in Água Verde neighborhood, 3.5 km from the downtown and 2.5 km (10 blocks) from Batel neighborhood, region with a high concentration of hotels, shops and restaurants. The stadium has a large parking lot, covered bleachers, shops, restaurants, and more.

From Curitiba Bus station to the Arena da Baixada

The supporters, who arrive by bus to Curitiba bus station, should go to the bus terminal on the opposite side (Rodoferroviária) and take a city bus to the city center (Fare: R$ 2,70).

You should take one of the following buses of the bus line Expresso BRT (red bus): Centenário/Campo Comprido or Pinhais/Rui Barbosa. After taking one of those buses, you should get off the bus at the second bus station (Eufrásio Correia). Afterwards, take the bus Expresso Santa Cândida/Capão Raso and get off at the bus station Coronel Dulcídio (800m distance from the stadium).

From Curitiba Airport to the Arena da Baixada

Ligeirinho Aeroporto – Connected with the Integrated Transport System (Sistema Integrado de Transporte) - Fare: R$ 2,70

If you take this bus to go to the stadium, please get off at the bus station Salgado Filho, take the bus Interbairros II (green bus) and get off at the bus station Terminal do Hauer. Then, you will have two different options: You can take the Expresso Boqueirão (red bus) or the bus Ligeirão Boqueirão (blue bus). Both will leave you at the bus station Estação Getúlio Vargas (one kilometer distance from the Arena da Baixada).

The bus Ligeirinho Aeroporto stops every three kilometers. If you just want to go to the center of the city (where you will find the hotels), you can get off at the bus station Baden Powel (close to the bus terminal) or at the station Círculo Militar (close to the Passeio Público in the central region of the city).

Special bus lines on match days

Aeroporto/Boqueirão

This bus takes you directly from the Afonso Pena airport to Boqueirão bus terminal. There will be no additional stops. In Boqueirão, the passenger will be within the zone of the Integrated Transport System. Fare: R$ 2,70

Circular Copa

This bus takes you to the central region (similar to the bus Circular Centro), but with a connection to the stadium. The Circular Copa is a common bus with 80 seats and it can circulate every two minutes, if necessary. Fare: R$ 2,70

Three special lines (free of charge) connect the parking area of the campus Unicuritiba and the campus PUC-PR in Prado Velho with the Arena da Baixada:

  • Unicuritiba 1 - Eight articulated buses circulate approximately every four minutes on a special bus line. Leaving the stadium after the match, there will be a special bus which can circulate almost every minute, if necessary.
  • Unicuritiba 2 - Five normal buses circulate approximately every five minutes on a special bus line. Leaving the stadium after the match, there will be a special bus which will circulate almost every two minutes.
  • Park and Ride PUC-PR - There will be six buses of the Integrated Transport System of Special Education. Three out of those six buses are able to carry up to 10 wheelchair users and other three buses are able to carry up to five wheelchair users.

Since the transportation system is integrated, the supporters only have to pay one unique fare. It doesn't matter from which point of the city or from which of the 13 neighboring communes they come from.
